Client Proposal

Informed by their own experience as parents, our client, Amplify Development, saw an opportunity to help with safer driving habits for teens.

Proof of Concept

First of all, we needed to prove the feasibility of this idea. The "How" really mattered when it came to app store guidelines and phone permissions, so we started with a proof of concept to explore parental control, monitoring and restrictions.

Our Solution

Our feasibility findings helped our clients and us reimagine how to bring dont® to life. We started planning a pair of apps: one for parents and one for teen drivers. Parents would use their version to receive reports about their child's phone use while driving.

The people who saw the app liked it. In fact, one of the agencies that may promote the platform was surprised that we were able to make it work. Many companies tried but weren’t successful.

Two Apps, One Service

The two dont® apps are linked from the start, with the parent version maintaining control.

Monitor and Report

The child app monitors device usage. It can detect when the user is driving, and what apps or features they use while driving. All of this usage data is reported to the parent app for the parent to review. It also alerts the parent when the child drives and uses an app that has not been authorized.

Low-Code Results

The dont® apps are built using Amazon Web Services, Vonage video streaming and Google Firebase. By using these cloud-based platforms, we reduced the need for costly and time-consuming custom code. The final result is just as functional as a fully custom app, but much more reliable and flexible.

Branding

Branding efforts started at square one: with a name. Next came a brand identity and logo to help communicate core functionality around motion, with red, yellow and green alert colors that tie to traffic lights.

Social Media

Our efforts also included a custom-made social media playbook. It contained strategies for maximizing the dont app's presence across platforms, as well as brand messaging about trust and parenting.

Launch

After a final user study, we successfully deployed the completed, truly inventive dont app to both the App Store and Google Play. We also marked our calendars for regular reviews and maintenance, to ensure that users continue to have a great experience.

Intellectual Property

dont® is a true invention. We made sure to help our clients protect their intellectual property by filing patents and trademarks to defend against unfair competition, or they ever decide to sell.
